The full question should read: Why is it OK to portray a white male as a serial killer in fictional drama, but not OK to portray a Middle Eastern male or Muslim as a terrorist? The critically-acclaimed television drama "Dexter" comes to mind. Dexter had it's fair share of controversy, though every instance was related to the show's sympathetic portrayal of a serial killer, not the race of the character. In fact, in searching I am unable to find a single article relating to any sort of race issue in the show. Another critically-acclaimed drama comes to mind: "24". Over the show's 7 seasons it has generated a lot of controversy for it's portrayal of Muslims and those of Middle Easter decent as terrorists. So much controversy, in fact, that several scenes were cut or altered in season 5 to ease some of the pressure that was placed on Fox.

 Now, personally, I don't have a problem seeing a white male portrayed as a serial killer. Why? Because based on the serial killers of the past, this is *realistic*, which serves to make a *realistic fiction* more...well, realistic, and thereby more entertaining. Likewise, I don't have a problem seeing Middle Easterners and/or Muslims portrayed as terrorists because based on the terrorist acts in the past few decades, this is also *realistic*. So, why the discrepancy in how people react to these portrayals?Read the question. I didn't ask why they aren't portrayed as terrorists, I clearly see that they are. My question was why is there controversy over it, but not over the negative portrayals of white people?

Why is it OK to portray a white male as a serial killer on TV but not a Middle Eastern male as a terrorist?

AL cy young

1. zack greinke: no run support, plays for a bad team, but the best pitcher in the AL this year.

2. felix hernandez: he has more wins and a lower ERA than halladay. any other year, the award is his.

3. roy halladay: former winner is a workhorse and a beast. too bad he plays for a bad team.

4. mariano rivera: the best closer in baseball hands down. exceptional control and strikeout ability. blew only 2 saves all year while saving 40 games for the first time since 2005. cc sabathia, josh beckett, and justin verlander are not viable candidates since they have ERAs in the 3.3-3.4 range, which are decent but not cy young standard (bartolo colon should give back his cy young.) cliff lee should be a candidate, but he switched league midseason.

NL cy young

1. chris carpenter: lowest ERA, best control, highest winning percentage.

2. tim lincecum: incredible strikeout rate, 2nd lowest ERA, plays for a horrible offensive team

3. adam wainwright: most win, 3rd lowest ERA.

4. matt cain: not as many strikeouts as lincecum, but exceptional ERA

5. jair jurrjens: hurt by poor run support

6. dan haren: another exceptional season for a horrible team

7. javier vazquez: having a career year, 2nd in strikeouts

8. wandy rodriguez: making a name for himself while playing for a horrible team

9. josh johnson: very consistent.

a winner AL MVP

1. joe mauer: leader in both avg and ops. power came out of nowhere

2. miguel cabrera: hitting for average and power

3. ichiro: mariners are mediocre, but ichiro is having one of his best seasons.

4. kevin youkilis: high on-base percentage and OPS. prove last year power binge wasn't a fluke

5. derek jeter: thriving at the leadoff spot

6. ben zobrist: having an exceptional year leading the rays offense

7. jason bartlett: ditto. power came out of nowhere

8. mark texeira: had his ups and downs but overall stats still stellar

9. alex rodriguez: exceptional last month put him in the discussion once again. missed too many games though.

10. michael young: just look at his stats. nuff said. adam lind played too many games at DH. torii hunter missed too many games.

NL mvp

1. albert pujols: pujols was robbed many times of mvp honors by ryan howard and barry bonds. it won't happen this year.

2. hanley ramirez: incredible average/power/speed combo also plays a premium position at shortstop

3. pablo sandoval: single-handedly carrying the giants offense

4. prince fielder: can't ignore the power and decent average

5. derrek lee: lee is officially back in the elite

6. chase utley: speed-average-power while playing 2nd base

AL rookie of the year

1. andrew bailey: the best closer no one heard about

2. jeff niemann: he was known as a bust since he was a highly-touted prospect whose progress slowed.

3. ricky romero: another former 1st round pick who is proving himself at the big league honorable mention: nolan reimold, rick porcello, elvis andrus, gordon beckham, david price

NL rookie of the year

1. J.A. Happ: his number suggests cy young credentials yet he is just a rookie who started off the year in the bullpen

2. garrett jones: can't argue with his power number. seems like the next ryan howard.

3. tommy hanson: another ace in the making

4. randy wells: ditto honorable mention: andrew mccutchen, chris coghlan, casey mcgehee, dexter fowler, luke gregerson

AL comeback player of the year

1. scott podsednik: most people thought he was done. now he's back playing outfield for the white sox just like their championship season

2. andruw jones: most figured his career was over. he's not great, but the power is still there.

3. carl pavano: barely played in 4 years. most figured he was done. honorable mention: aaron hill, hideki matsui, jorge posada

NL comeback player of the year

1. chris carpenter: came back from injuries and re-established himself as a cy young contender

2. todd helton: most figured he was done being an impact player

3. barry zito: most thought he was a joke. he proved them wrong honorable mention: gary sheffield, pedro martinez, huston street

I recently bought a Sony DAV-HDX277WC. I have everything hooked up and calibrated it. When calibrating, it notifies me everything works and plays a sound through them. So, when I play my DVD through it, it only comes out of two speakers not all of them(5.1 surround/2.0 surround. Dexter season 1). I know this is a retarded question but its bugging me. If anyone can explain why, help, or whatever. It is greatly appreciated. How can I get it to play through all the speakers? Music and Games too.HDMI cable. no red/white

How do I get my surround sound to work?

Ok... I have lot of times on my hands when I'm at work... and I usually watch tv series or movies.. What would you suggest?
